What do "young carers" need? Nearly half a million children and teenagers in Germany care for their chronically ill and/or elderly grandparents, parents, or siblings. Translated to Bremen, that's approximately 4,000 children and teenagers who regularly look after family members. However, taking on responsibility and providing assistance can also have significant negative consequences for these children and teenagers: the danger always arises when the task overwhelms them.

To bring the topic more into focus for teachers, social workers, (educational) professionals, health professionals, care advisors and other interested parties, the Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration, the Senator for Children and Education and the Senator for Health, Women and Consumer Protection are organizing a joint conference at the House of Science on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

Interdepartmental conference

The interdepartmental conference will feature presentations by experts from academia and practice, as well as discussions on potential solutions.
