Violence

Violence can take many forms and often places a heavy burden on victims and their families. Support services for adults, children, and young people provide guidance and point to resources in the city of Bremen. They do not have to face this alone.
  • In Bremen, there are specialized counseling centers, emergency hotlines, and safe spaces for people experiencing violence. The support is confidential, free of charge, and anonymous upon request.

  • The Violence Against Women Helpline is available free of charge 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, offering support to women in distress. Those affected can receive anonymous, competent, safe, and barrier-free advice at any time. Qualified female counselors provide confidential support and, if needed, connect women with local support services, such as a women's counseling center or a women's shelter. Accessibility and multilingual support ensure access for women with disabilities and limited German language skills. The helpline is also available to family members, friends, and professionals for questions and information.

There, you can discuss your experiences in a safe and confidential environment and work together to determine what steps might be helpful.

  • Domestic and physical violence includes, for example, hitting, threats, or coercion within partnerships or families. In Bremen, victims receive counseling, protection, and support.

  • In Bremen, specialized counseling centers and medical support services are available for victims of sexual violence. They provide assistance regardless of when the violence occurred.

  • Psychological abuse manifests itself, for example, through insults, control, intimidation, or belittling. Bremen also offers counseling services that take this seriously and provide support.

  • If children or people in need are being neglected, or if you have concerns, you can contact counseling centers or the youth welfare office in Bremen. Anonymous reports are also possible. For this purpose, please use the child and youth emergency service at 0421 699 11 33.
