Completing school and vocational training with a child? For many young mothers, this presents a major hurdle. But there's the BeLeM project! BeLeM offers young mothers from Bremen without a school-leaving certificate or with a basic vocational qualification (BBR) the opportunity to actively shape their own future, even with a child. There are currently still places available in the project. Entry is also possible during the current school year.
Career planning for young mothers
“These students in particular need a program tailored to their individual circumstances so they don't lose sight of their prospects for vocational training and an independent life,” says Katja Flemming, a social worker with the BeLeM project. She is eager to fill the currently available spots. “Because the project allows young mothers to continue their educational journey – even with a child!” adds Katja Flemming.
Intensive support for mother and child
What makes this special: The young mothers receive intensive support from a multi-professional team consisting of teachers, a social worker, and childcare workers. Furthermore, the children are cared for in the project's own under-3s group during school hours, giving them a good start in life through this intensive support.
Cooperation project between school and youth services
BeLeM is a collaborative project between schools and youth services, jointly implemented by the zsb (Center for Social Services) and the Allgemeine Berufsbildende Schule (ABS) under the auspices of the German Red Cross (DRK), Bremen District Association. The participating institutions share responsibility for the project and work closely together in its planning, coordination, and implementation. The BeLeM project location is the Allgemeine Berufsbildende Schule (ABS), Valckenburghstraße branch, Valckenburghstraße 9, 28201 Bremen (Neustadt).
