Designing a natural and inclusive playground: To create a natural, inclusive, and publicly accessible playground, the Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Youth, and Integration is seeking an operator and a suitable location. Interested groups can contact the Social Affairs Authority until December 10, 2024.
Pilot project for low-threshold playground design
Together with the German Children's Aid Organization eV and the association Spiel-Landschaft-Stadt eV, the authority wants to develop a pilot project for low-threshold playground design, for example with a parents' initiative or the support association of a daycare center.
Dedicated Bremen initiative sought
The pilot project is entitled: “Playing Together – Inclusive Playground Design as a Community Action in the Neighborhood”. At its core, it aims to support a dedicated initiative in the city of Bremen in redesigning its outdoor space in a natural and inclusive way, in order to gather experience for future projects.
The private initiative will receive financial support of €15,000 to €30,000 and expert guidance throughout the entire process – from the initial idea and the necessary participatory process with children and the neighborhood to the completion of the play area. Prior knowledge in the areas of inclusion, participation, or playground planning and construction is not required.
The space is to be created as a "participatory construction site"
However, contributions from the community are required; the project should be designed as a "participatory construction site" as much as possible, independent of prefabricated, expensive, and specifically inclusive playground equipment. The planning and construction phase is scheduled to last from the beginning of 2025 to mid-2026.
"Close to nature, low-threshold and involving the local community"
Senator for Social Affairs Dr. Claudia Schilling: “The pilot project aims to develop examples and approaches that demonstrate how inclusive playground design can be implemented in a way that is as close to nature as possible, easily accessible, and involves the local community. Based on the experiences gained, we want to create a guide that makes it easier to design inclusive playgrounds with limited financial resources and without extensive prior knowledge.”
Who is being sought?
The target audience includes parent initiatives, support associations for daycare centers or schools, street and house communities, inclusive housing arrangements for people with disabilities, self-help groups, associations (such as sports or allotment garden associations), cooperatives or non-profit limited liability companies (gGmbHs), church communities and other non-profit religious communities, youth councils (with the support of an adult).
