Child welfare risks at a new high
The number of cases of child endangerment in Germany has reached a new record high for the third time in a row: In 2024, youth welfare offices in Germany identified around 72,800 children or young people as being at risk of child endangerment due to neglect, psychological, physical or sexual violence.
Bremen's second report on children and youth has been published
The second Children and Youth Report was recently presented by the Social Affairs Department to the Youth Welfare Committee. It continues the systematic inventory of open-access children's and youth work (OKJA) and youth association work in Bremen, which began in 2022. At the same time, it comprehensively presents, for the first time, other key areas of work within child and youth welfare and the interconnections between different services.
Systemic daycare support starts as a pilot program
The aim is to specifically strengthen facilities with a particularly high number of children with special needs. Instead of individual personal assistants, systemic support will be provided for all children in the future.
Healthy professionals strengthen the quality of daycare centers
Bremen is launching a comprehensive workplace health management program: Promoting the health of daycare staff improves the quality of education and thus the development of children in daycare centers. This is the conclusion reached by the Standing Scientific Commission of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (SWK).
