The "Christmas Aid" fundraising campaign is entering its 27th season this autumn. The campaign, which is run in cooperation with the Weser-Kurier newspaper, was able to support around 1,400 families last year with over €400,000 in donations. A total of 2,847 applications were submitted to the Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration – slightly more than the previous year.

Applications must be submitted by October 31st

This year, as in previous years, low-income families can apply for the "Christmas Aid" grant until October 31, 2024, at locations including daycare centers, schools, family and mothers' centers, family support centers, or through family support workers. The donations are intended to benefit children in Bremen up to the age of 12 who live in low-income families. Proof of need is required.

This is how I apply for Christmas aid

  • Proof of income (pay slip or complete notification, e.g., from the job center)
  • The personal situation must be described in writing (at least half a DIN A4 page)
  • Recommendation from a supporting body, e.g., daycare centers, schools, mothers' centers, family centers or family support services

What do I need to be aware of?

  • Application forms are available exclusively through daycare centers, schools, mothers' centers, family centers, family support workers, or other social service agencies! Anyone wishing to submit an application must inquire there!
  • Applicants are encouraged to describe their personal situation themselves and not to rely on pre-formulated sentence fragments. Applicants who do not speak German very well can get creative and, for example, submit a self-drawn picture.
  • Donations for computer games, game consoles, televisions, etc., will not be accepted. Donation pledges will be sent by mail. Anyone who receives a donation must retain the original purchase receipts and submit them no later than February 2025.
  • Professionals from daycare centers, schools, mothers' centers, family centers or family helpers can contact Mehmet Büyükgöncü in Department 21 at the Senator for Labour, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration for further information, questions and applications.

Please send your application to the following address no later than October 31, 2024:
